CroatiaFest

A Celebration of Croatian Culture & Heritage

Welcome to CroatiaFest 2010: “Culture and Sport”. This year's event will highlight the rich cultural heritage of the region as well as honoring another integral part of our culture: sport. From soccer and football to basketball and baseball, Northwest Croatians have always had an affinity for sport and have produced some of the world’s most distinguished athletes. Along with the wonderful music, dance and food that make our culture so unique, we will take this opportunity to honor local Pacific Northwest as well as national Croatian athletes and their successes.

Display panels on the main floor of the Center House will showcase the accomplishments of athletes from the past and present.

The performance of traditional music and dance has been a very important part of maintaining our cultural identity. This year marks milestone anniversaries for three noted Northwest musical ensembles -- The Seattle Junior Tamburitzans, 40 years; Sinovi Tamburitza Orchestra, 30 years and The Vela Luka Croatian Dance Ensemble, 35 years. The Harrison Gallery will feature an exhibit chronicling the accomplishments of these fine groups along with a pictorial history of the numerous tamburitza orchestras of years past. A multimedia display will include historic Croatian folk instruments like bagpipes, drums, flutes and tamburitzas, and traditional garments worn in performance.
